 It is a time in our lives we will never forget. The months we had to spend in isolation due to a global pandemic. Who would have thought?! Although we have many reasons to feel anxious and worried, we can see this downtime as an opportunity. To focus on those things we have been putting off due to lack of time, things that will help us feel stronger and more in control, physically, mentally and emotionally.

Call me biased but I am absolutely loving seeing people in the streets getting fit, and running seems to be the top pick, likely because you can do it on your own, and you don’t need any equipment besides a good pair of runners.

I really hope that the trend continues and more people discover the power of running and how it can transform so many aspects of your health. However, I am wondering how many new runner’s or those getting back into running after some time off, are considering how to prevent injury and how to maintain motivation?

 

The answer to the question is – strength & conditioning and building those km’s safely

Unfortunately we are not invincible and a lack of strength and stability of the muscles we need when we run will lead to injury or at the very least a plateau in efficiency and motivation.

 A very simple and short routine of strength and conditioning exercises to compliment your running is all you need to do. You could do these exercises as a warm up before you run or as a session on its own. However I still recommend doing a few core and glute activation exercises before you take off for a run to make sure your body is prepped and ready to support your posture as you pound the pavement.
